What an incredible find. This show occurred early in the MULE's career during a 16 show mini tour. Highlights include a Police canceled date in north Georgia, followed by two shows the next day in Macon, the Georgia's fall Jubilee Festival and GABBA's GABBAfest. In those days, Allen, Matt and Warren would schedule Gov't Mule mini-tours between Allman Brothers Band tours, their main gig at the time. 15 months after their world premier show, the band was working on new material and refining a style that carries through to today. The new material would eventually become their debut album.

A one-off private gig scheduled for South Georgia listed on Kirk West's ABB telephone tour hotline, created waves among the converted. Fans all over the area tried to find the location of this show but to no avail.

Until now the first 2/3 of this show has circulated, with the last 1/3 mysteriously missing. When it was announced that the MULEtrane was starting up again, a Mark Klecka offered a complete copy of the show for circulation to our seedmaster, Joel Davies.

This show is a perfect example of a very early Gov't Mule performance. It shows the band working out the new tunes in front of the fans. Reviewing the set list reveals a fantastic mix of MULEized covers and future mule classics. The set covers include tunes from bands that influenced the Mule...Free, ABB, Steppenwolf, Coltrane, Grateful Dead, Charlie Parker, Cream, and ZZ Top.

The quality of the recording is far past anything we might of expected from a private party...and now you can hear the whole performance.
