Eric Clapton joined Santana at the

Tokyo Budokan during their Japan

tour as special guest on several

songs.

Santana started the show about ten

past seven. After about one hour,

eleven songs, Carlos introduced one

of his friends. He walked from the

right side of back stage, with Fender

SRV signature model in his hand and

plugged with Fender twin amp, and

Carlos called his name, "Eric Clapton!!".

The surprised audience was screaming and

clapping for a long time. After a while

they started to play and EC played on

"Batuka" / "No one to depend on" and

"Taboo" / "The calling" for about 20 min.,

performing some nice solos on these tunes.

After Eric had left stage, Santana continued

their show with three more songs before saying

good-bye and leaving to backstage. They appeared

on stage again for the encore, along with their

guest of today. They almost played for 30 min.

"Apache" / "Smooth", "Soul sacrifice" and "Jingo",

including some drum and percussion solo.

During the encore, Eric was always on stage, of

course performing fabulous solos on each tune,

and some interplay with Carlos in beautiful harmony.

At the end of "Jingo", Eric even attended part of

vocals.

The rehearsals took place just before the show at

Budokan, because Eric had arrived in Japan on the day.
